“Take heed now; for the LORD
hath chosen thee to build an house for the sanctuary: be strong, and do it.” (1Ch 28:10 AV)
Nike Apparel’s slogan is “Just
Do It.” The Nike ‘swish’ is the icon
that intimates superhuman feats attempted by those who are ‘just doing it’. What the slogan dares is for the individual
to attempt something that would seem as though it would be impossible to succeed. Dare to climb a mountain higher than you’ve
ever climbed before. Run a marathon that
would push you beyond your limits. The
slogan suggests relaxing all normal thoughts of prudence and throw caution to
the wind to accomplish something one thought to be impossible. America’s Funniest Videos testifies to countless
people who have tried to ‘just do it’ who probably should have not tried to ‘just
do it’. This is not that of which David
is challenging Solomon. David is
charging his son to accomplish that which God has called him to do because
David has set in place all that he needs to be successful.
There comes a time when we
know the hardships or hurdles that face a particular course and we are either
going to go ahead, or we are going to stay put.
Building the temple was rather straight forward. David had drawn up the plans. David had assembled all the pieces of construction. David had received all the materials needed for
the forging of the implements for worship.
In short, David had assembled the pieces of the puzzle and all Solomon
had to do was to put it together. The
last ten chapters of this book deal with temple assignments. There was not much thought that had to go
into the construction of the temple. All
Solomon would have to do is to “Just do it.”
When it comes to serving the
LORD, we have too many excuses. We aren’t
prepared. We are not gifted to
accomplish that for which we are asked to serve. Someone else is more qualified. We are not burdened for that particular need. Etc. etc. etc. The reality is we need to “Just Do It.”
